The Untouchable Avengers!
Shareefs are known for a rich political background that sprawls over three decades. The ups and downs in their career graph should let us assume that the downs may have left them learning from the mistakes and the ups may have increased their motivation to keep doing more. However, here is the thing with Shareefs - their sense of entitlement ironically with no blue-blood running in their veins, is funny; if not appalling.
In the press conference held yesterday, Shahbaz took a jab at NAB, primarily because he could not even in his wildest imagination think of presenting himself to NAB for accountability purpose. Where his brother's rallying cry is 'Mujhe Kyun Nikala'; his seemed to purport 'Mujhe Kyun Bulaya'. Laced with the comments was Shareefs typical arrogance that suggests can do anything to anyone who dares question them on any account.
This was not the first time we saw one of the Shareefs lashing out on the institutions that attempt to function in a way not serving them. Maryam especially leads from the front in showing her disdain via engaging in the 'Twitter warfare' and being the Twitterati Queen especially when she has to rebuff the Authorities decisions given against her family. Be it showing Shareef Jr. waiting outside during investigation or Maryam being summoned up for the hearing before JIT - according to the family its all unjustifiable and highly unceremonious.
Basing the entire logic on I-am-untouchable-because-I-enjoy-the-power yields the moral discrepancies that trickle down to the lower levels of the society. Making the accountability look like a part of some conspiracy that aims to subvert the Government is the classic maneuvering that has by far led to atleast winning them some degree of sympathy.
A huge noise was made about two years ago against the VIP culture when Rehman Malik was made to seen his way out of the aircraft followed by a great deal of uproar in the media but nothing could really change the ways of the people who claim to belong to the special cadre of the society. Maybe because political considerations take a backseat when people get delved into the prosaic issues of their daily lives.
Two things have badly damaged the nucleus of the society we are living in.
a. Feeling bad to question the Authority.
b. Feeling worse when the Authority questions us.
I believe both the ways we are pushing ourselves in the state of complete ambiguity and lack of self-awareness where distinguishing right from wrong and vice versa has become a great deal of work for us. Intimidation by the powerful, if not directly affects the engine running the morality, leaves some impact for sure especially in the absence of a prompt action by the Authorities. Silence or laxity is usually mistaken as the fear and hence big is considered as above the law; as a general rule of thumb.
On the whole, coming up with the stance of if-not-them-why-me elicits a whirlpool of opinions, judgement and reactions by the people across the board and everyone gets caught in the never ending vicious cycle. Justice and equality gets entangled somewhere in various opinions and belief systems creating a yawning gap between the reality and the fantasy.
But in case of Shareefs it is beyond a doubt; almost forbidden to even think of questioning them not because others are not being questioned but because no one should dare think of bringing them in the fore for their evaluation.

Its their neck-stiff pride and their sense of entitlement that has made me witness extraordinary events where an honored Judge is told to stay within his limits and a bureaucrat officer is warned to remain aligned with what is being expected. And yes more importantly please note that I wasn't watching a movie based on some Mafia. I was watching the news.
I was reading between the lines that were said overtly and covertly on the news, Twitter and the newspapers!
